Revitalizing the Environmental Ethics in Islam

Proposals

Visionary Projects:

In partnerships with Young Muslims , Faith of Life Network , IFEES,  and in consultation with other partners/sponsoring below are some major iniatives we hope to implement over the next several years: 

1. Waste Diversion 2010

This Initiative will introduce Recycling Programs in major mosques across Canada by 2010, God-Willing. Our target is to reduce waste in mosques by 50%.

TARGETS

  1. Contacting major mosques by December 2008
  2. Introduce Recycling Programs in these Mosques by December 2008 2008
  3. Recycling on a weekly basis & Waste Reduction by 50% OR MORE BY 2010

 

2. 'Planting the Future of Canada'

'Who plants a tree, plants a good deed'  

This initiative inspired by United Nations Billion Tree Campaign 

It will facilitate planting 10,000 trees or shrubs across Canada at Islamic community Musjids, Cultural Centres, and Business areas. This is to be complemented by encouraging another  40, 000 trees or shrubs are to be planted in Muslim residences.

TARGETS

  1. Contact major mosques and Muslim media toward 1,000 trees to be planted by Summer 2009, with another 10,000 committed.
  2. Network and volunteer corps in place towards encouraging 10,000 tress to by planted in Spring/Summer 2010, with another 20,000 committed for following summer.
  3. Weekend Muslim planting teams in major Mosques across Canada towards in Spring/Summer 2011 doubling the number of trees planted and committed based on previous year's successes.

 

3. Organic Iftars

This Initiative will introduce the healthier and more sustainable Halal Organic Food options in Islamic communities across Canada, God-Willing. Our target is to encourage 25% of Canadian Muslim regularly choosing Organics by 2015.

TARGETS

  1. Contact major mosques across Canada in August 2008 towards at advocating least one Organic Iftaar event in every region of Canada during Ramadan 2007
  2. Provide a moral and material support system towards at least one Organic Halal meat source in every region of Canada by the beginning end of Ramadan 2008.  
  3. Standardized Organic Halal meat certificate, and promotional campaigns at community events and gatherings throughout 2009. 

 

 

 

 4. Green Hijab Day

Starting 2009, w are  hoping that 3rd week of October will become Islamic Environmental Education Week starting 2009.

 We are hoping to implement this 'Green Attire Day' across ethnocultural communitties starting October 2009.
